Shah Amanat International Airport on Alert Amid Rising Global COVID-19 Cases

With a surge in COVID-19 infections reported in India and several other countries, authorities at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram have strengthened health and safety protocols to prevent potential spread into Bangladesh.

Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, Public Relations Officer of Shah Amanat International Airport, confirmed that several precautionary measures have been taken to ensure passenger safety in light of rising global concern.

Key Measures Implemented:

• Health screening equipment has been installed at the immigration entry point of the international arrival hall.

• A non-contact thermal scanner system is now in place to measure passenger body temperatures upon arrival.

• The airport has mandated mask usage in all sensitive zones within the terminal for passengers, staff, and visitors.

• The airport’s health team has been provided with an adequate stock of masks and gloves for emergency use.

These steps are being carried out under the guidance of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Bangladesh. The airport authority has emphasized that public awareness and passenger cooperation will play a vital role in keeping the country safe from a potential resurgence.

Analysis:

Given the renewed rise in COVID-19 infections globally, especially in neighboring India, the enhanced precautions at Bangladesh’s international airports are timely and essential. As international travelers can unknowingly carry the virus, early detection through thermal screening, strict mask enforcement, and personal protective measures are crucial to containment.
