Professor Yunus’s London Visit: Bangladesh’s Representative on the Diplomatic Stage

Professor Muhammad Yunus, Principal Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh, arrived in London on the morning of June 10 as part of his four-day official visit and held a brief discussion at his hotel with Jonathan Powell, the United Kingdom’s National Security Adviser, according to the government’s Press Wing. During their meeting, they exchanged views on regional and global security, poverty alleviation, and the promotion of world peace and harmony.

Prior to this meeting, Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique had announced that Professor Yunus would be granted an audience with King Charles III and would also hold bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The London meeting was attended by senior political and diplomatic figures, with Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other ministers expected to join the discussions.

In recognition of his lifelong service to the world’s poorest communities, King Charles III has nominated Professor Yunus for the “King Charles III Harmony Award 2025.” The formal award ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 12, at St James’s Palace in London.

Overall, this dialogue not only deepens diplomatic exchange but is widely seen in diplomatic circles as inaugurating a new era in Bangladesh–UK relations and as playing an important role in furthering global peace efforts.
