Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), said that to ensure the city’s development, we must focus on revenue collection. At the same time, we must make sure no citizen is harassed in the name of tax collection.
He spoke these words on Thursday morning (19 June) during a meeting with ground‑level staff of the revenue department in the CCC Public Library hall.
The Mayor said that all development work in the city—education, health, infrastructure—depends on this revenue. Therefore, honesty, professionalism, and good conduct in collecting taxes are essential.
He added that CCC is working with a company to automate the holding‑tax system. Once online tax payment is available, citizens will face fewer hassles and the process will be more transparent.
Warning that no influence from powerful people will be tolerated in tax collection, the Mayor said attempts to evade taxes through influence will not be allowed. “Work according to the law; I stand with you,” he told the staff.
Noting that the new fiscal year’s budget must be presented on 23 June, the Mayor said there are only 10–11 days left. “We must collect taxes in an organized way during this time. If needed, I will personally speak with major taxpayers,” he added.
The Mayor also said, “Tax collection is not just a financial task; it is about trust. People pay taxes believing their children can go to good schools, roads in their neighborhood will be repaired, or hospitals will improve. We must keep that trust.”
The meeting was attended by CCC’s Chief Revenue Officer Sarwar Kamal, Revenue Officer Md. Sabbir Rahman Sani, other tax officers, sub‑officers, tax collectors, and permit inspectors.
