Israel Claims Elimination of Iran’s Top Three Military Commanders

The Israeli military announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that its forces carried out a surprise overnight strike, deploying over 200 combat aircraft to hit more than 100 targets across Iran, including its nuclear sites, under “Operation Rising Lion.” 


1. Commanders Reported Killed

   Israel named the three senior Iranian commanders it said were eliminated:


   • Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces

   

• Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps

   

Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, Head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters


2. Targeted Sites and Timing

   The pre-dawn Friday attack focused on facilities involved in uranium enrichment and nuclear weapons development in and around Tehran. The strikes generated large plumes of smoke and fire, as reported by Iranian media and eyewitnesses.


3. Casualties and Medical Response

   At least 50 people were wounded in the attacks, including 35 women and children, most of whom were hospitalized at Chamran Hospital in Tehran’s Tajrish district.


4. Iran’s Leadership Response

   Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned the strikes, warning that the “Zionist regime” would face a “bitter and painful outcome” for its actions.
