Memorable Moments for Tigers in Galle and Today’s Test Update

Bangladesh has many fond memories on Sri Lankan soil, especially at the Galle Stadium. In 2013, Mushfiqur Rahim scored his first Test double century there, helping Bangladesh post a massive 638 runs.

In the first day of the current Galle Test (17 June 2025), the Tigers again put on a strong display, reaching 292 for 3 by stumps:

• Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 105, breaking his own run record in Galle with a total of 755 runs at this ground.

• Najmul Hossain Shanto also finished not out on 136, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 247 runs—Bangladesh’s highest fourth-wicket partnership in Sri Lanka.

• Players’ Mindsets

Mushfiqur said in the press conference:

“The conditions and the pitch were perfect for batting, but you still have to value every ball. Our plan was to bat for a long time, and I told Shanto the same. The goal now is to build on this and make the innings even bigger.”

He added:

“You don’t think about 200 from the start—you focus on building partnerships. If Shanto reaches a double century, that will be a big plus for us.”

Conclusion: Carrying on Galle’s rich history, Bangladesh set themselves up well on day one. If they can secure an 80–100 run lead early on day two, they will be in an excellent position to post a very large total.
